Peptide Reconstitution Guide: From Vial to Solution

Most lyophilized research peptides arrive as a dry white powder sealed inside a small glass vial. That powder is stable, easy to ship, and can sit at room temperature for months — but it can't be used in research protocols until it's dissolved into a liquid solution.
Reconstitution means adding liquid to the powder to turn it into a solution. Once dissolved, the compound can be precisely measured and prepared for in vitro laboratory use.
What You'll Need
- Bacteriostatic water (BAC Water) — the standard solvent for peptide reconstitution. Contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol to prevent bacterial growth after the vial is opened.
- Draw syringe — 3mL with 18G needle, for transferring BAC Water into the peptide vial
- Measurement syringe — 1mL U-100 with 31G needle, for accurately measuring your reconstituted solution
- Alcohol prep swabs — standard isopropyl, for wiping vial tops before any needle insertion
Why BAC Water and not regular water? BAC Water contains benzyl alcohol, which prevents bacterial growth after the vial has been opened. Plain sterile water becomes contaminated within hours of first use. BAC Water keeps your reconstituted solution stable for 4–6 weeks when refrigerated.
Step-by-Step Process
Step 1 — Wipe both vials. Use an alcohol swab to clean the rubber stopper on both the peptide vial and the BAC Water vial. Let them air dry for a few seconds.
Step 2 — Draw your BAC Water. Insert the needle into the BAC Water vial and pull back the plunger to draw the amount you need (see concentration math below).
Step 3 — Add the water slowly. Insert the needle into the peptide vial and angle it so the BAC Water runs down the side of the vial, not directly onto the powder. Slowly depress the plunger.
Step 4 — Swirl, don't shake. Gently swirl the vial in a slow circular motion until the powder is fully dissolved. The solution should be clear. Do not shake — shaking can break down the peptide structure.
Step 5 — Inspect. Hold the vial up to light. The solution should be clear and free of floating particles. If it's cloudy or has visible chunks, keep swirling gently.
Concentration Math
Formula: mg of peptide ÷ mL of BAC Water added = mg/mL concentration
Example: 3mg peptide vial + 1mL BAC Water = 3mg/mL. Every 0.1mL (10 units on a U-100 syringe) contains 0.3mg.

Storage After Reconstitution
